Sound Word support
Sound Word is a native iPhone and iPad reading practice app by Jake Heading. Find familiar words among letters, say the sounds and blend them, without pictures or sentences providing clues.
Getting started
- Choose 4 Letters, 5 Letters or 6 Letters.
- Tap letters in spelling order. A recognised word turns green and earns one point per letter. Tap a selected letter again to undo it.
- Use Check words to finish the board and see words you missed. New board replaces the letters and keeps your total score.
Scroll the letter grid to reach lower rows. Instructions, sound, letter case, New board and Check words are available at the bottom. With a keyboard, use the left and right arrows to move and Space to select.
Tutorial and settings
Open Instructions with the question-mark button. Choose Replay tutorial to see the introduction again. The speaker button switches sound effects on or off; the letter-case button switches between lowercase and capitals.
Progress and recovery
Your current board, score, time and preferences are saved in the app on this device. You do not need an account or internet connection to practise. If the app closes, reopen it to continue. Check words ends the current board; View results lets you see its results again.
Deleting the app removes its local data; offloading the app retains it. Device backups are managed separately through Apple’s settings. Sound Word does not provide its own cloud syncing.

Privacy
Sound Word has no accounts, advertising, tracking or speech recording. Read the Sound Word privacy policy.
