Jake Heading in the classroom

The Teacher

My name is Jake Heading, though most people know me as Mr Heading. I’m a primary school teacher based in Adelaide, Australia, with a strong interest in how children learn in a world shaped by technology.

My focus is on technology as a tool for thinking and creativity. I work as a digital technologies specialist and care deeply about helping students use digital tools to build, explore, and solve problems rather than simply consume content. I’m particularly interested in future-focused learning and what it means to prepare children for a world that is still being invented.

The Builder

I started building small digital tools to support my own classroom. They were simple, practical, and designed to solve real problems. Other teachers began asking to use them, and one of those ideas grew into Daily Maths Review.

Daily Maths Review is now used by thousands of teachers every day across the world. Building tools for real classrooms has shaped how I think about education, design, and iteration. Small ideas, when built carefully and tested in real contexts, can make a big difference. You can see more of what I build on the projects page.

The Writer

Over time, my thinking about children, creativity, and technology expanded beyond the classroom. I write regularly through my blog and newsletter, sharing ideas about education, parenting, and helping kids use technology well.

In 2025, I published my first book, Better Tech Kids. It’s written for parents who want a hopeful and practical approach to technology. The book is built around one core idea: when children use technology to create rather than consume, everything changes. You can read more about it here.

The Speaker & Sharer

I speak at education events and professional learning sessions, focusing on creative technology use, AI in schools, and future-focused teaching. I’ve also contributed to shaping AI policy in my own school, helping staff think carefully about how new tools are introduced and used. You can find speaking topics here.

I share ideas publicly through social media as well. My TikTok account has grown to over 13,000 followers, reaching parents and educators around the world with short reflections, classroom ideas, and honest conversations about learning and technology.

The Lifelong Learner

I’m endlessly curious. I read widely about pedagogy, creativity, psychology, and technology, and I’m always working on new projects.

I believe children learn best when they are trusted to build things that matter to them. That belief runs through my teaching, my writing, my apps, and everything I share here.
